Cotton Sourcing
There is growing global concern about reports of forced labor and human rights violations inflicted upon millions of Uyghurs in China’s North-western Xinjiang region. Reports describe atrocities including torture, forced separation and compulsory sterilization of Uyghur women.
We know that many global apparel brands source from Xinjiang. It’s estimated that one in five cotton products sold globally are at risk of being tainted with forced labor and human rights violations occurring in the region.
China produces around 22% of the world’s cotton supplies, and in 2019 84% of Chinese cotton came from Xinjiang, according to a report by the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS).
We have taken active steps to ensure that none of the cotton sourced for Rab or Lowe Alpine apparel or equipment is from the Xinjiang region of China. We have never knowingly sourced cotton products from this region.
