🏔️ Description
The Rab Xenon Shield Jacket QIP-52 combines synthetic insulation and waterproof protection in a single garment for cold, wet, and windy days. It is designed for mountain activity when you need to conserve heat without resorting to separate insulating and shell jackets.
Its 2-layer Pertex® Shield exterior offers 20,000 mm of waterproofness and a breathability MVTR of 20,000 g/m²/24 h. Inside, it uses zoned PrimaLoft® Silver insulation to balance warmth and mobility during activity.
⭐ The Mountain Group Review
The Xenon Shield is one of the most interesting AW26 innovations from Rab because it solves a specific scenario very well: cold + precipitation + activity. Compared to a conventional synthetic jacket, it adds true waterproof protection; compared to a shell without insulation, it provides an integrated thermal reserve.
We see it as especially suitable for winter hiking, cold mountain environments, and activities where the weather can deteriorate quickly. Its underarm vents also allow for better management of excess heat during climbs.

❓ Frequently Asked Questions
Is the Rab Xenon Shield waterproof?
Yes. It uses 2-layer Pertex® Shield, and Rab specifies a water column of 20,000 mm.
What insulation does it use?
It uses PrimaLoft® Silver, with 133 g/m² of main insulation and zoned distribution to balance heat and mobility.
Is it suitable for intense activity?
It is designed for active days in the mountains and incorporates underarm vents to facilitate heat evacuation during climbs.
Does it replace a shell and an insulating jacket?
On many cold and wet days, it can simplify the system by integrating both functions, although the choice will depend on the activity level and the need to layer.
