Why Rab: The story of Equip and our specialization

Mountain Group was born around a very specific idea: to truly specialize in technical gear and be able to provide knowledgeable advice on it. Rab was the brand around which that project began and it remains one of the store's main hallmarks.
2013: an online store specializing in Rab
The story begins in 2013, when Armando and Andrés Escudero launched an online store focused on Rab, a British brand that at the time still had a much smaller presence in Spain than it does today.
The project was initially developed in parallel with their professional jobs, but with a clear philosophy: to know the product, understand what each garment is for, and convey that knowledge to the customer.
2014: Mountain Group arrives at the Rastro in Madrid
In 2014, the opportunity arose to open a physical store in one of Madrid's areas with the greatest tradition linked to mountain shops: the Rastro.
Today, Mountain Group continues at Ribera de Curtidores 6, 28005 Madrid, combining a physical store and e-commerce.

Rab as a hallmark
Over the years, the Mountain Group catalog has expanded, but Rab continues to occupy a central place. It is not just about having the product available: specialization allows us to compare families, explain technical differences, and guide the purchase according to activity, climate, and level of demand.
Down jackets, waterproofs, synthetic insulation, sleeping bags, and backpacks require different decisions. Our goal is for the customer to understand those differences before buying.
Specialization recognized outside of Mountain Group
In 2024, Campo Base / elDiario.es published the report “Mountain Group, specialized in Rab”, which reviewed the origins of the project and described Mountain Group as a benchmark for Rab in Madrid and part of the Spanish market.
